Shailo Rao is a PhD student interested in how cognitive and social principles can improve the human-computer relationship. He works with Clifford Nass at the Communication between Humans and Interactive Media (CHIMe) Lab investigating how to design socially intelligent user interfaces.

He is also an intern with the Usability team at Google where he applies his knowledge of user centered research and design.

Shailo graduated from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) with a Distinction in Cognitive Science specializing in Human Computer Interaction. At UCSD, Shailo worked at the Interactive Cognition Lab (ICL) with David Kirsh and Aaron Cicourel. His ethnographic research included a study of how people organize their workspaces and how people collaborate in digitally augmented environments. Other work at the ICL included designing an interactive E-Learning web programming course as well as a seminar on designing interactive environments.
