Class of 2008
Hetal comes to Stanford from the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign, where he graduated in 2007 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and specializations in Spanish and Political Science. During his time at Illinois, Hetal worked for WPGU 107.1 News, where he was an on-air anchor and live correspondent, as well as a reporter and newswriter off-air. At WPGU, Hetal covered a religion beat focusing on different religious groups on campus and also was stationed at the Illinois Republican Party Headquarters on Election Night 2006. Before that, Hetal also worked at Illinois's Daily Illini student newspaper, where he covered issues related to higher education in the state of Illinois, political issues during the 2004 national elections, and a cicada invasion during the spring of 2004. |
Andrew is a senior in the English and History Departments as well as a Masters student in Journalism at Stanford. He has worked as a writer for The Stanford Daily, The Weekly Observer (in Kampala, Uganda), and The Black Ink Review, which he also edits. Andrew is originally from Boston, captains the Stanford Squash team, and manages an on-campus kitchen. |
Josie comes to Stanford from the Martha Stewart magazine Body+Soul, where she served first as research editor and later as Green Living editor. She also edited web content and regularly appeared as a guest on "The Magazine Hour" on Sirius Satellite radio. Josie has written about health, science, the environment, arts, and education for publications including The Village Voice, Plenty, and Broadway.com, and worked as a general assignment reporter for Manhattan's award-winning community newspaper, The Villager. She holds a dual bachelor's degree in Journalism and Dance from New York University and will receive her master's from Stanford in June 2008. Josie is interested in multimedia reporting and hopes to cover the convergence of environment, technology, and business. Erika comes to Stanford fresh from her undergraduate degrees at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a B.A. in both Journalism and the Plan II Liberal Arts honors program. She spent the spring of 2006 studying French at La Sorbonne in Paris, France. Erika's specialty and passion is photojournalism. While at UT, she worked as a staff photographer for the yearbook and as photo editor of the Undecided student newspaper. In Austin, Erika interned with local photographers Charla Wood and Ron Parks and produced still photographs for the production of the award winning independent film, Jumping Off Bridges. In the future, Erika hopes to blend her photographic and writing abilities to produce multimedia journalism accessable via multiple platforms. |
David completed his undergraduate History major last spring and is now a co-terminal student in Journalism. He has held internships at the San Jose Mercury News, the Mountain View Voice, and the Daily Monitor (in Kampala, Uganda). David also worked at The Stanford Daily as a managing editor, columnist and staff writer. He has also been a captain of the squash team (he is currently in his fifth-season with the team) and co-written Gaieties - a musical spoof produced in the days before Big Game - for the past two years. David is from Brooklyn, NY. |
Tricia earned her BA in Communication and BA in Studio Art from Stanford University in 2007. She is completing the Journalism Masters program while acting as a Resident Assistant at Bob House and captain of the Stanford Equestrian Team. Tricia is an accomplished photographer, having had multiple shows on campus over the past three years, and continues to work as a freelance black & white photographer. She plans to go into a multimedia position with the intent to eventually land a career in photojournalism. |
Jennifer graduated from Stanford University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in International Relations and a minor in Spanish. Last year, she wrote her senior honors thesis on microfinance institutions in Mexico. Jennifer interned at the Knight Ridder Washington Bureau as part of the Stanford in Washington program, and interned at The San Jose Mercury News this past summer. She still works as a freelance writer for The Mercury, and publishes a daily online column on celebrity and style news. |
Nicole graduated from Princeton University in 2004 with a dual degree in Political Science and Near Eastern Studies. Prior to enrolling at Stanford, Nicole worked as the Foreign Policy Intern in the Office of Senator Edward M. Kennedy and later as an analyst with the Corporate Executive Board and Coach Inc. As a freelance writer and reporter, her work has appeared in the New York Post, AARP Magazine and Manhattan-based Gothamist.com. After completing her Master’s degree, Nicole hopes to cover entrepreneurship and venture capitalism in Silicon Valley. |
Amanda is a native New Yorker, Amanda Schoenberg has spent three years as a city reporter in the predominantly Latino agricultural community of Watsonville, California. Before coming to California, she worked as a reporter at The Tico Times, an English-language newspaper in San Jose, Costa Rica. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and Spanish from Smith College in Northampton, Mass. in 2000 and spent her junior year studying in Seville, Spain. After graduation, she returned to New York and worked for two years as an editor at a medical publishing company. After earning her Master's in journalism from Stanford in June 2008, she plans to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. |
Christina is a Bay Area native. She grew up in San Francisco and graduated from UC Berkeley, where she earned her BA in English and Mass Communications. She also worked as an arts reviewer for The Daily Californian, UC Berkeley’s student-run newspaper. She had several years of diverse professional experience before beginning her graduate studies in journalism at Stanford. Among other roles, she has worked for Google, Inc. in Mountain View, California in online advertising and in West Hollywood at IW Group Inc., one of the country’s largest public relations firms focusing on Asian-American media. |
