Bronwyn Barnett
Bronwyn is from Alvin, Texas, and earned an Associate of Arts degree in physics and chemistry from Monterey Peninsula College in 2000 and a bachelor's degree in English in 2002 from the University of California at Berkeley. Bronwyn interned at the Stanford Report as a science writer. She hopes to become a science journalist and/or an anthropologist.

Rachael Hanley
Rachael was born in Rye, N.H., and lived in Nicaragua and Guatemala before moving to Massachusetts. She earned a bachelor's degree in 2002 in English literature and Spanish at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. Her achievements while at Smith include being a member of the varsity crew team and completing an honors thesis on Early Modern (Renaissance) women writers. Rachel worked as a city desk reporter for the Daily Hampshire Gazette and as a correspondent for its sister publication, the Amherst Arts Bulletin. Upon graduating from Stanford, Rachael hopes to work as a foreign affairs correspondent.

Vinay Jain
Born in Richmond, Va., Vinay received a bachelor's degree in Political and Social Thought from the University of Virginia and a master's degree in Political Thought and Intellectual History from the University of Cambridge. He is interested in questions of political participation and how journalism influences the decisions of government. After graduation, he is interested in working for a political journal.

Adelene Lee
Adelene grew up in Malaysia and began her studies at the Institut Catholique de Paris. She earned a bachelor's degree in Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London in 2000. Her journalism background includes one year writing for the New Straits Times (the No. 1 English daily in Malaysia), an internship with Egypt Today (in Cairo) and three and a half years working as a financial journalist at Standard & Poor's. After graduation, Adelene will be interning at Business 2.0.

Francine Miller
Originally from London, Francine earned her bachelor's degree in American and Canadian studies at the University of Birmingham, England. She joined Business Wire Europe as a newsroom editor in December 2001. She has interned with various media organizations, including The London Times, Birmingham Post, BBC News and CNN. After graduation, she hopes to become a foreign correspondent.

Julie Patel
Born in India, Julie arrived in the United States when she was 4, and grew up in Chicago. She earned bachelor's degrees in English and Gender Studies from the University of Chicago. Julie worked at CNN in New Delhi and spent a year teaching through AmeriCorps. She then was a general assignment reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times. This summer, Julie will begin working at the San Jose Mercury News covering youth issues in their one-year program.

Alison Pierce
Alison moved from her hometown in Seattle, Wash., to attend the Colorado College where she graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's in English and film. After college, she traveled throughout New Zealand and Fiji, eventually moving back to her hometown to work with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. There, she wrote community articles and theater reviews. Before coming to Stanford, Alison worked as an associate consultant for Pacific Public Affairs, a Seattle-based public affairs consulting firm where she focused on public opinion research and grassroots organizing. Her goal is to work as a reporter for a newspaper or magazine doing international or cultural reporting.

Jonathan Thaw
Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, Jonny graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in geography from Oxford University. After graduating, he worked as a consultant with Accenture in London. During and after university, Jonny interned with The Scotsman newspaper in Edinburgh and contributed freelance business and high-tech stories for the paper. His goal is to cover business and technology for either a newspaper, magazine or news wire service.

Muoi Tran
Born in Vietnam, Muoi came to the United States at age 5 and has lived in San Jose for the past 20 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems from San Jose State University, with minors in Spanish and Humanities. Prior to Stanford, Muoi was a Web editor for Agilent Technologies in Palo Alto. After graduation, Muoi will intern at Fortune magazine in New York.

Wei Zhang
Wei was born in Beijing, China. She earned a bachelor's degree in Portuguese from Beijing Studies Foreign University in 1998. She then worked at the China News Agency covering Latin America for three years. Wei came to Stanford in 2001 and earned a master's degree in Latin American Studies. She is now pursuing a second master's degree in journalism. She plans to go back to China after graduation and work as a journalist for either magazines or television.
